Sepang - Malaysia Airports is pleased to announce the appointment of Dato’ Azmi Murad as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective from 1 October 2020. The position had been left vacant since January 2020 when Dato’ Mohd Shukrie assumed the mantle of Acting Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO)and subsequently, Group CEO of Malaysia Airports.
Dato’ Azmi is a long-standing employee of Malaysia Airports, starting his aviation career in 1970 with the Department of Civil Aviation (now known as CAAM) as an Air Traffic Controller prior to the corporatisation of Malaysia Airports in 1991.
The Board of Directors and Management of Malaysia Airports are certain that Dato’ Azmi is the most suitable candidate for this position due to his long and vast experience in airport operations and management. According to Dato’ Mohd Shukrie, “Throughout his career, Dato’ Azmi has managed all types of airports, both domestic and international. He was instrumental in the opening of KL International Airport in 1998 and managed its operations for a large number of years. He also has international experience as over the last several years, Dato’ Azmi was an Executive Director at our Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkey. I am confident that Dato’ Azmi will play a valuable role in elevating Malaysia’s position as a strong aviation hub.”
Dato’ Azmi has also held other key positions covering different portfolios, such as the General Manager of Sepang International Circuit in 2000, and the General Manager of Corporate Communications. He was also the Chairman of the Airports Council International World Facilitation and Services Standing Committee until November 2011, and had also sat on the board of Tourism Malaysia and was a committee member of the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Development Council (KLTDC), as well as Malaysia-Singapore Business Council Joint Tourism and Hospitality.
